When The Honeymoon Seems To be Over

Like everything tech in Life –  laptops are fantastic. When they work! When the don’t – the adjective “frustrated” takes on a whole new and deeper meaning.

How To Fix The 3 Most Common Laptop Problems

While we can’t stop our portable computers from having the ocassional (we hope!) electronic hiccups, we can save ourselves some frustration (and dollars) by getting up to speed on three of the most common LAPTOP PC problems:

alt="[frustrated-pc-user]"Problem One – No Life In The Machine

You click the “time to boot up” button and nothing happens. So what’s up with this? Well assuming you’re reasonably familiar with the location of the controls, there are two possibilities here: The first one being the most obvious. (and also the most irratating!) Dead battery. Somehow, all the power you had last time has left town. Leaving you(pun intended) powerless.

The other possibility is that your PC has a lock. A (usually tiny) switch designed to prevent your portable from accidently turning on and running down and out with your battery life. This essential control is often a sliding one, meant to be pushed back and forth.

The way to know whether this or no battery is the problem, is to look at the “power on” button. If the light is red – Danger Will Robinson! – Battery problem! if not – then it’s the “safety” lock. Your mission, should you want to actually use the portable you’ve paid for, is to scour the manual, until you find just where this ever so helpful feature is located.

You say your laptop was racing with the wind just yesterday? Surfing you around at warp speed? Pages loading in scant milliseconds? And now – molasses in January? What could possibly be wrong? Well – this isn’t what you want to hear – but the truth is there’s more than one reason yesterday’s speed racer is now dragging it’s feet.

First up – lack of hard drive space. The best solution here, is the obvious one: Get rid of all unnecessary programs. This is the first best step to freeing up some space.

Next, follow this up by checking for any potential virus/spyware gremlins. Finally, get in the habit of running a cleaning utility/virus scan each time you power up. Your mantra should be: “Clean Portable =Fast Portable!

alt="[no-internet-today.jpg]"Problem Three – Shut Out of The Party

All your friends are there. All the action is there. All the information is there. Hey – maybe even your business is there. But you can’t get there! Because your laptop won’t co-operate. Why can’t you access the internet? Again – many different possibilities. The most common relating, not suprisingly, to your mode of access.

If your connection is physical – that is, with a wired connection, check to see that everything is plugged in. And that the connection is solid. More often than you would imagine, the culprit is not an obviously frayed plug, but an invisible break inside the connecting cable. For this reason it’s good practice not to store cables all coiled up. This will reduce your chances of having to buy a new connecting cable.

If your internet route is via a wireless connection, right click your network settings at the bottom right, to ensure that nothing has been inadvertently altered.

The Final Solution To Fixing The 3 Most Common Laptop Problems

And if none of the above bring you any joy? What Then? Hey – you already know the answer . Do you not? Two words. The first one – 4 letters starting with “T.” The second – 7 letters, ending with “T.”
